Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Ellvan Studios ("we", "us") handles information in TopFoil: Trading Card Maker, Android package com.ellvanstudios.topfoil, and when you visit our TopFoil pages or contact us. It describes the current version of the app.

In brief: You do not need an account. Your cards, drafts and imported artwork are stored on your device. Optional usage analytics in the Android app is off by default and can be enabled by a grown-up in Settings. The app has no advertising, online sharing or in-app AI upload service. We cannot remotely retrieve your collection. Android's device backup service may separately back up app data depending on your device and settings.

Cards, drafts and artwork

TopFoil stores the card names and text you enter, selected artwork, imported images, layouts, symbols, card backs, foil and texture settings, protection choices, drafts and binder positions in local app storage. This is used to create, display, save and reopen your cards. The browser version uses browser storage, including IndexedDB. The Android version uses storage within the app's WebView.

When you choose an image through the file picker, the app reads the selected image to display and save it with your card. It does not upload that image to Ellvan Studios or an AI service, or automatically browse your photo library. Some bundled illustrations were created with AI tools during development. Choosing these illustrations does not send your card content to those tools.

Accounts, advertising and permissions

The current version does not require registration, collect account details, use advertising SDKs or offer purchases. The Store screen is a preview, not a working checkout. The Android app declares internet access for optional usage analytics and external links, but does not send your saved card content to an Ellvan server. The current Android manifest does not request camera, microphone, contacts or location access. Advertising ID and Android advertising-services permissions are removed from the app.

Optional Android usage analytics

Google Analytics for Firebase is included in the Android app. Analytics collection and analytics-storage consent are disabled by default. A grown-up can choose to enable usage analytics in Settings after a grown-up confirmation. The app works without it. Browser previews do not use this native Firebase integration.

When enabled, Firebase receives an app-instance identifier, app and device information, general session activity and approximate location derived from an IP address, along with basic events such as screen visits, builder-step progress, successful card creation or editing, collection views, device-art import and music-setting changes. Event parameters describe categories such as layout, frame style, finish, protection, number of symbols and collection size. We use these events to understand the creation funnel, find difficult steps and see how often cards are made. These records are pseudonymous, not completely anonymous.

We do not send card names, card text, artwork, photos, imported filenames, local card IDs or children's names and ages. We do not set an account-based user ID. Advertising ID collection, advertising storage, advertising user-data consent and ad-personalisation consent are disabled. We do not use this information to target advertising.

Optional app analytics is processed based on consent where required. Turn Share usage analytics off in Settings to stop future collection and reset the app's on-device analytics identifier. This does not automatically delete information already sent to Google. Retention is controlled by the Google Analytics property's settings. Contact us with privacy questions or applicable deletion requests. Google may process information outside your country. See Google's privacy policy and Firebase's privacy information.

Music and preferences

Background music is bundled with the app rather than streamed from a music service. The music on/off setting and analytics preference are saved locally. Turning music off does not affect card creation. Music pauses when the app is backgrounded. These local preferences may be included in device-controlled backups.

Local retention, backup and deletion

Local information remains until you remove it, clear app or browser data, or uninstall the app, subject to operating-system backup and restoration behaviour. Deleting a card or draft does not necessarily remove the original image from your device or another card that uses it. Clearing all app data removes the locally stored collection, drafts and imported copies. We cannot recover these records for you.

Android backup is enabled in the current app configuration. Depending on Android, your device manufacturer and your backup choices, some app data may be backed up or restored by your platform provider. This is not an Ellvan cloud account or synchronisation service. Manage and delete device backups through your device or backup provider. See Google's privacy policy. Children and families

TopFoil can be used without supplying a child's name, age, email address or other personal details to us. Grown-ups should help children choose appropriate pictures and avoid putting private information in card text. There is no public profile or in-app messaging in this version. If you believe personal information about a child has been sent to us, contact us so we can investigate and address it.

Website visits and support

When you open our website, hosting and security providers may process technical request information, such as your IP address, browser information, requested page and request time, to deliver and protect the site. This is separate from your locally stored collection. If you email us or use our website contact form, we receive the contact details, message and attachments you choose to send. Do not send private card artwork, information about children or other sensitive information unless needed for your request.

We use support information to answer questions, investigate issues and maintain necessary records. We retain it only for as long as reasonably needed for those purposes or legal obligations. Our website hosting, email and contact-form providers process information to deliver these services; their processing may occur outside your country. We do not sell your personal information or use support messages for targeted advertising. Information may be disclosed where required by law.

Website analytics

The Ellvan Studios website uses Google Analytics to understand website traffic. It can use cookies and process browser and device information, page visits, interactions and approximate location derived from an IP address. This website analytics code is not included in the TopFoil Android app and does not receive your locally stored cards or imported artwork. You can manage cookies in your browser and read how Google uses information from partner sites.

Security and your rights

Use a device passcode and keep your device and app updated. No storage system is completely secure. We process support and technical information for our legitimate interests in responding to requests and operating a secure service, and where necessary to meet legal obligations. Depending on applicable law, you may ask to access, correct, delete or restrict personal information held by us, or object to its use. Contact us below. You may also complain to your local data protection authority, including the UK Information Commissioner's Office. We cannot access or erase app data stored only on your device.
